This is a business club conducted by our law practice and The Reluctant Entrepreneur. It is open to all owners and managers of businesses and to those who conduct a not-for-profit enterprise, no matter their industry or the size or type of business.
Meetings are held quarterly, with keynote business speakers, discussion groups, business book reviews, handouts and legal spotlights.
The School of Hard Knocks is a hands on, very practical club. The aim is for local businesses to improve and be successful. We want business people to learn from one another and to pick up on ideas from others who are outside their own industry and business experience and who might have quite different perspectives. As an owner or manager of a business or not-for-profit enterprise, you are warmly invited to attend any of our business club meetings.
Our Next Meeting
Our next meeting for the School of Hard Knocks will be held Wednesday 16 May 2018.
Our event commences from 12:00pm for a 12:30pm start over lunch and finishing at 2:00pm. (note: change of venue to Ibis Glen Waverley)
Our guest speaker will be Dr Graham Kenny speaking on “A Blueprint to Agile Strategic Planning”.
The traditional strategic planning approach, still practiced by most organisations today, can best be described as “rigid”. It involves an annual retreat, a done-and-dusted plan (all glossily presented) that does little to change organisational performance. It also lacks a sound framework. A tragic waste of time and resources. Agile strategic planning, in contrast, views strategic planning as a journey, not a project. Hence, a strategic plan becomes a tool – a means not an end. In this scenario strategic planning drives continuous learning and improvement and results in sustained performance.
